DUTCH Test

DUTCH Test: Comprehensive Hormone & Adrenal Assessment

Nava’s advanced DUTCH hormone testing goes beyond standard bloodwork to uncover hormone patterns, metabolism, and daily cortisol rhythms, with expert guidance to turn those insights into a personalized plan to help you feel your best.

What Is DUTCH Test and Why Comprehensive Hormone Testing Matters?

DUTCH is the most advanced and comprehensive functional hormone test available today.

Unlike a simple blood draw that only measures how much hormone is floating in your bloodstream, the DUTCH test analyzes hormone metabolites. This tells us not just how much hormone you produce, but how your body is using and eliminating it. This distinction is critical. It allows us to see if you are clearing estrogen safely (cancer risk prevention), if your cortisol is crashing in the afternoon (adrenal fatigue), and if your testosterone is converting into forms that cause hair loss or acne.

Symptoms & Conditions

Uncover the Root Cause of Your Symptoms with the DUTCH Test

If you are dealing with chronic issues that standard medicine hasn’t solved, the DUTCH test can reveal the root cause.

Chronic Fatigue & Burnout

Waking up tired or crashing midday.

Sleep Disruption

Insomnia, frequent waking, or “tired but weird” feelings.

Mood Changes

Anxiety, depression, irritability, or severe PMS/PMDD.

Weight Loss Resistance

Inability to lose weight despite diet and exercise.

Menstrual Irregularities

Heavy periods, painful cycles, or irregular ovulation (PCOS).

Libido Issues

Low sex drive or sexual dysfunction in men and women.

Stress Intolerance

Feeling overwhelmed easily or unable to handle daily stressors.

Menopausal Symptoms

Hot flashes, night sweats, and brain fog.

Hormones & Pathways Evaluated in the DUTCH Test

This test provides a deep dive into your endocrine system.

Neurotransmitter Metabolites

The test also includes organic acid markers for Vitamin B12 and B6, Glutathione, Dopamine, and Serotonin/Melatonin production, giving us insight into your brain health and mood.

Estrogen & Estrogen Metabolites

We measure Estradiol (E2), Estrone (E1), and Estriol (E3). Crucially, we see how you break them down. Are you clearing estrogen down the “safe” pathway, or the “pro-carcinogenic” pathway that increases DNA damage?

Testosterone & Androgens

We measure DHEA-S and Testosterone, plus their metabolites. This reveals if your androgens are converting to 5a-DHT (which causes hair loss and acne) or 5b-Androstanediol (which is less potent).

Cortisol & DHEA Patterns

Instead of a single cortisol check, we map your 24-hour cortisol rhythm. This shows us your stress response curve whether you have high cortisol (acute stress) or “flat-lined” cortisol (adrenal exhaustion).

Progesterone

We measure progesterone metabolites to assess your body’s production. This is vital for sleep, anxiety relief, and fertility tracking.

Benefits of DUTCH Testing vs Standard Hormone Panels

Different tests reveal different parts of the picture

  • The “Movie” vs. The “Snapshot”: Blood tests give you one moment in time. DUTCH gives us the story of your entire day, including your sleep-wake cycle.
  • Metabolite Insight: Blood tests cannot show metabolites. Only the DUTCH test reveals if your hormones are going down dangerous pathways or healthy ones.
  • Adrenal Accuracy: Saliva or urine testing is superior for tracking the daily rhythm of cortisol (stress hormone) compared to a stressful blood draw that can artificially spike your levels.
  • Non-Invasive: No needles, no fasting, and easy collection in the privacy of your home.

why nava

Why Choose Nava Health for Your Hormone Evaluation?

A test is only as good as the doctor interpreting it. The DUTCH test is complex and requires specialized training to read correctly.

Expert Interpretation

Complex hormone data isn’t very useful without someone who knows how to interpret it. Nava pairs advanced diagnostics with medical experts who turn your results into a clear, personalized path forward. Our providers are functional medicine experts trained to analyze hormone pathways. We translate the data into actionable health strategies.

Integrative Solutions

We don’t just identify the problem; we fix it. We use the data to customize Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT), nutraceuticals, and lifestyle changes.

Whole-Body Approach

We correlate your DUTCH results with your thyroid and gut health (using our 200+ point blood panel) to ensure no stone is left unturned.

Nutrition & health guidance

Most lab results end with a recommendation to eat better. Yours ends with a registered dietitian who has read your panel and builds nutrition, supplementation, and lifestyle guidance around what your specific markers show. It’s a full hour, and it adjusts as your labs move.

Dose refinement & optimization

Any doctor can write you a prescription. Finding the dose that actually works for your body takes follow-up labs, honest conversation about how you feel, and a provider willing to adjust rather than leave you on a starting dose indefinitely. If your plan includes treatment, that refinement process is built in.

Have More Questions?

Is the DUTCH test just for women?

No. While it is famous for tracking female cycles, it is incredibly valuable for men. It helps men understand low testosterone, estrogen dominance (which can cause belly fat and mood issues), and adrenal health.

Can I take this test if I am on birth control?

It depends on the type. If you are on a hormonal IUD or oral contraceptives, your natural hormone production is suppressed, so the test may not show your baseline levels. However, it is still useful for checking cortisol (adrenal) and organic acid markers. Your provider will advise you on the best time.

How long does it take to get results?

Results generally take 7 to 10 business days to process. Once completed, we schedule a detailed 45-minute review session where your provider explains every number, what it means for your health, and how to improve it.

Does insurance cover the DUTCH test?

The DUTCH test is a specialty functional lab and is generally not covered by standard insurance. However, Nava Health offers member pricing to make this advanced technology more accessible. We can also provide a superbill for you to submit to your HSA/FSA.

Is it difficult to collect samples?

Not at all. You simply saturate a small piece of filter paper with urine at 4 or 5 specific times during the day. You let them dry and put them in a bag. There are no jugs of urine to carry around, and no needles involved.
